Aerosmith's Ten Worst Moments

Categories: Lists

In honor of The Bad Boys from Boston gracing the stage at Cricket Pavillion this evening, we've compiled a top ten list of Aerosmith's less-than-flattering moments. Sorry, no Joe Perry Solo album, here.

10. Liv Tyler as a Sex Symbol

Liv and Daddy Steven Tyler

Little Liv (Who was only 16 at the time) was cast as a rambunctiously risque schoolgirl in Aerosmith's 1994 music video, "Crazy." The producers apparently had no knowledge that Liv was Steven's daughter.

9. "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," A.K.A That God awful song from the equally as God awful film, Armageddon

Despite the song being a Billboard Hot 100 number one hit, it wasn't written by the band and was meant for Celine Dion. Enough said.

8. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

There's plenty wrong here:

  • Despite the title, only 60 percent of the songs in the game are Aerosmith songs.
  • The game sells for the same price as any other Guitar Hero title, even though it is shorter and reportedly MUCH easier.
  • Aerosmith decided to re-record some classics.
  • Guitar Hero is so 2006.

7. The Future Villain Band

Aerosmith were featured as the nemisis to the Bee Gees' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in the disastrous film of the same name. Sure they got a number one hit out of it (a cover of The Beatles' "Come Together"), but at what cost?

6. Done With Mirrors (1985)

5. Notorious Drug Abuse
Done With Mirrors was meant to be the comeback album for Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, who left the band for various reasons. It also signaled the end of Aerosmith's drug abuse. Unfortunately, it eneded up being a financial dud without a single hit. It didn't even reach "Gold" status until 1993.

In the band's early days, Aerosmith had even more narcotics than they did hairspray. Steven Tyler collapsed onstage in 1980 at a show in Maine and again in 1982 during a homecoming gig in Massachusetts.

4. Rock in a Hard Place (1982)

The only Aerosmith album that didn't feature Joe Perry, Rock In A Hard Place also only credits Brad Whitford as an additional musician. The album failed to produce a hit and drowned in commercial and critical disappointment.

3. Rick Dufay

Rick Dufay rplaced Brad Whitford from 1981 to 1984. He prformed on Rock in a Hard Place. His biggest failure is not being Brad Whitford.

2. Jimmy Crespo

Jimmy Crespo replaced Joe Perry from 1979 to 1984. He performed on Rock in a Hard Place. His greatest failure is not being Joe Perry...and that hair cut.

1. The Years 1979-1984

No photographic evidence exists that can accurately depict how terrible this period of time was for Aerosmith.

Aerosmith has been around nearly forty years now. The band's low point was cleary between 1979 and 1984. Four of the previous nine "worst moments" came from this five year period. Let's forget about it and hope they don't play that God-awful song from Armageddon tonight at Cricket Wireless Pavilion.
