Wolverine fans show off their free merch at the press conference to announce the world premiere of X-men Origins: Wolverine at Tempe Marketplace's Harkins Theater
Earlier today we told you that X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be making its world premiere right here in Tempe Arizona on Monday, April 27, after local fans made it so by sending in their ZIP codes to the official web site. What we didn't tell you is how pants-on-head excited Tempe is for the premiere.

Shortly after noon today, more than 600 Wolverine fans waited patiently (some more than others) in the CineCapri Theater at Tempe Marketplace's Harkins Theater. Many had been waiting for four hours or more in the hopes that by attending today's press conference they would also receive a ticket to the premiere.

Shortly before the official announcement, Dan Harkins, owner of Harkins Theater prowled the crowd telling them to "go ape" for the cameras. We're not sure how necessary that bit of encouragement was though as a single camera spotlight was enough to drive these fans into a screaming frenzy; so much so in fact that the trailer couldn't be heard over the cheering.

Even Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman got wrapped up in the hype as he ran up and down the aisles asking the audience to make some noise.

Finally it was time for the official announcement direct from Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman in a pre-recorded video. Jackman expressed his appreciation for everyone who participated in the ZIP code contest prior to announcing Tempe as the winner.

Fans clutch free merch handed out to them at today's press conference.

"X marks the spot for...Tempe, Arizona," Jackman said "We're bringing the cast, a whole heap of red carpet and all the Hollywood touches."

Hearing the good news from Wolverine himself made the already ecstatic crowd cheer even louder, but there were still more surprises in store. Each audience member filled out a voucher that will guarantee them a ticket to the big event. In addition, theater employees brought in free merch in the form of miniature posters, dog tags and foam Wolverine hands complete with his signature claws.

But before fans could rush back to work to show off their free movie merch, Dan Harkins hit them with another announcement. He claimed the premiere would be the world's largest as he plans to show the movie on all 16 screens at Harkins Tempe Marketplace.

"This is like a movie-going orgy," Harkins said.

Frankly, we couldn't have summed it up better ourselves. There is no doubt that Tempe is excited as hell for the premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. So stick around, bub, because we at Up on the Sun will keep bringing you more details about the premiere as we get them.
