Groove Candy Lands at Doc's Place

Less than a week after getting booted from the now-extinct Lyte Lounge & Bistro, Wednesday night hip-hop throwdown Groove Candy will take up residence at CenPho restaurant/jazz spot Doc's Place starting on April 8. Power 98.3 mid-day jock Karlie Hustle, who hosts the weekly event, made the announcement over her Twitter account tonight.

Per my post from yesterday (as well as food critic Michele Laudig's dispatch from earlier this evening over on Chow Bella), Lyte closed up shop last week for unspecified reasons. Hustle scrambled to find a new stomping ground for herself and the night's resident turntable guru DJ M2 (who drops a mix of hip-hop, soul, and reggae every week) and the eatery's owners Doc and Nayo Jones were (apparently) receptive.

The premiere edition of Groove Candy at Doc's, which is located at the Uptown Plaza at Central Avenue and Camelback Road, will feature no cover until midnight. Hit up GC's Twitter and MySpace for more.

ive been to all the 3 of the gc spots and i miss the door. doc's is cool. there are always drink specials all night. cheap cover charge. no fights lol. i don't know people- no club night is PERFECT but groove candy does well and will be around for quite awhile. everyone should give it a try! esp. music lovers!
I love the GC nights, but not at this new place. My girls and I had a horrible time, we waited forever for drinks, the staff was rude and drinks were watered down. I hope GC is looking for a new spot.
Actually there are plenty of drink specials @ Doc's Place. In fact, there's a daily 2-4-1 happy hour, $4 house wines, $3 beer, etc...they also offer discounted specialty drinks daily....the next best thing is free and that's unreasonable. The drinks are priced for the demagraphic. Good luck, Groove Candy hope the venue works out for you!
Yea! I've been to this place...it's way too overpriced for drinks and the bartenders are rude as hell. Catch ya at the next venue.
I also disagree with Meka. I am much happier to travel to Central Phoenix than to North Scottsdale any day. And I live in the Chandler/Gilbert area. I'm just hoping the vibe at this new location is similar to the way GC felt at The Door. And that we can hook up better drink specials at Doc's Place now that GC's in the building ($9 glasses of wine??? -- I'll have an ice water with lemon please! LOL) Good luck Miss Karlie! ;o)
I disagree with Meka... I love the fact that GC has moved to Phoenix, since I do live in the central area... Scottsdale was too far for me so now I will be able to get my GC fix every week... Thanks to Doc's Place!

the majority of people who give to Groove Candy are from the East Valley so moving Groove Candy from Scottsdale all the way to north-central Phoenix makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. People from Chandler, Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert, ect. are not going to travel 30-45 minutes to the other side of town for this. Matter of fact, because of this horrid business decision I will go ahead a predict the end of Groove Candy as we all know it...
