Flaming Lips, Matisyahu Headlining McDowell Mountain Music Festival

• <p>The Flaming Lips were always on my top shows to see and although I'm glad we did see/hear them and their spectacle, the show was lack lustre. </p> <p>Almost immediately, Wayne announced how cool it was to be in DC the week before and how he doesn't have an issue with Phoenix (spite what everyone says). 50% of the crowd left at this point. </p> <p>They proceeded to perform their cover of Madonna's "Borderline" which resulted in another 50% of the crowd leaving.</p> <p>Granted, I wasn't there to see the crowd, but it was disheartening to see them lose an audience bulk by bulk. Part and parcel to a good show is a good crowd and I'm sure at a FL show all the more. </p> <p>He then mentioned again (as though he forgot he told us) we were in DC last week and blah blah blah.</p> <p>At least we were able to make enough noise for an encore of Vaseline and Do You Realize. Otherwise it would have been a total flop short of the lil' seemingly impromptu jams.</p> <p>Next time(if there is a next time). I hope to see them in a 300 capacity secret show. I'm sure it would be an entirely different experience.</p>

• <p><br /> I have never really cared about this event before this. </p> <p>I saw Flaming Lips do a privet and unannounced show at SXSW a few years ago in a room that held MAYBE 300 people and it was one of the best live shows I have ever seen in my life (and I see a lot of shows). </p>
