Rage in the Cage: JoJo Thompson vs. Eric Prindle

When I was little, my dad would take my brother and I to see amateur boxing matches. I would spend pretty much the entirety of the bouts watching through my fingers, praying that the boxers didn't kill each other. While I still blame having to sit through those matches for my overall wussiness today, I can only imagine how my little 5-year-old brain would have processed an Ultimate Cage Fighting match, where a) the fights actually take place in a cage, eliminating any hope for escape and b) fighters always look like they're about to kill each other, even if that never (well, rarely) actually happens.

But while my initial reaction to attending Rage in the Cage, the mixed martial arts cage fighting event held regularly throughout the Valley, includes a good, thorough wetting of my pants, your reaction might include a giant fist pump accompanied by shouts of "Hell yeah!" If this is the case, you should hurry up and buy a ticket to Friday night's Rage In the Cage at Celebrity Theater. And you likely won't be alone; RITC events have a fiercely loyal following consisting of lots of excited, hyped-up people. Friday's event will also include a heavyweight title fight between JoJo Thompson and Eric Prindle, which means even more violent, hit-em-up bang for your buck. If you need me, I'll be looking at photos of puppies, babies and rainbows and listening to The Lion King soundtrack.

Rage in the Cage starts at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9 at Celebrity Ptheater in Phoenix. Tickets range from $30-$85. For more information, visit www.rageinthecage.com.
