Lone Butte Casino to Host "American Idol"-Style Televised Talent Show

Think you're better than some of the colorful people on American Idol or think you're Arizona's next Jordin Sparks? Well, you have a shot to prove it next month at Chandler's Lone Butte Casino. The casino will host "Lone Butte Lucky Break," the first in a series of televised talent shows, at 8 p.m. Thursday, February 5.

Performers will be pitted against each other for an opportunity to score an audition with national record labels in Nashville, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City. Wanna-be singers and stage performers will be judged on their crowd appeal, vocal performances, and appearance. The winner will move on to perform in front of influential music producers. And the top performances will air 10:30 p.m. Saturdays on CBS, kicking off February 21.

Singers can sign up at the Cascade Lounge at Lone Butte Casino, 1077 S. Kyrene Road, between 7 and 8 p.m. Thursdays or by visiting the Mix 96.9 FM Web site. Call 1-800-946-4452 for more information.

I will confess that AI is getting a little tiresome but I still like it because it is an "easy" watch for my family.

According to a friend of mine who does this every season, auditions are on Wednesday nights at 8pm. Get there between 7 and 8 to register. If you're chosen for the finals, you go back on Thursday to sing again and have your performance taped, and it'll air on TV on Saturday night. I don't know how long the season is, so I don't know how many weeks or months there are until the final. I've been to one contest at Lone Butte to support a friend, and the judging was terrible. One girl was ripped apart for singing a certain way, and then someone else did the same things and the judges loved him. The person who won was terrible, and somehow she gets paid to perform around the valley. That's supposed to be against the rules, yet she entered and won.
Could you actually produce me personally with any much more resources on this subject?
What a disrespect to the singing. Judges don't know what they are doing. Is it a popularity contest or a talent contest. Watched the final one more time on the web( 2nd season ). Indian girl, I think was clearly outstanding and guess who wins, worst of the 4 final contestants?? Put some fair rules. Look for talent. Don't make the show a joke.
Winner is definitely rigged. In the final winner should have been Nisha versus Janelle. What a joke. Credibility of the show vanishes when judges sell off their soul for a little money. Get rid of the judges. Good luck in the next season. CBS airs this show. Shame shame shame.

Tone deaf, dressed ridiculously and think that you can sing? Then you should be on Lucky Break. It is the most stupid, pitiful show aired on TV.

I watch all the time and really like the show BUT, on 7-25 the winner was not the best, it should have been (can't remember his last name) Julian, boy did that guy really knocked it out of the ball park, he sang 'It's not unusual' and 'Blue spanish eyes'--sometimes I have to wonder if there is to much noise in the casino for the judges to really hear, whoever does the audio for t.v. does a great job cause you can clearly hear every note in the performers voices...Julian keep on truckin you are goooood.
Went to the July 9th show and have never witnessed more horrible judging in my life! The guy who won had one of the strangest voices I have ever heard. He also seemed really awkward and erratic on stage. It was difficult to watch at times. The girl who SHOULD HAVE won was beautiful, had a voice that would have got her to the Idol Top 10 and a very professional and polished stage presence. Her rendition of Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" was flawless and everyone there knew it. The judges clearly were not there to choose the most talented but instead the most marketable. The female judge even admitted to me that the winner was chosen because he "Sounded good on television". What does that mean? Perhaps they should go find a belching contest somewhere to judge...that is, if they're qualified! (end rant)
my daughter signed up for this in march, but never got a call! I watched every sat night & saw a woman I went to school with get right on for there was an OPEN SPOT? jeff lowy even talked to her about people paying to hear her sing, & she recieved 3 -7's ! now I hear that it is time for the semi-finalist to sing, what a JOKE! Someone is getting paid pretty good for this so called contest, shame on all of you!
I registered over a month ago,and still no call.I enen went out there,and still was not allowed to partisipate,What does it take to get on the show.

Yeah me and my wife were talking about it at the bar. Maybe singing was tie but the one we liked who lost made it fun. They should have left it tie. Bless those horns. They will probably need to replace them in a couple of weeks when they wear out.
The show was fun last night, but the judging was really lame, as they had two tied contestants sing a "happy birthday" singoff, which was a ridiculous way to choose the winner. Especially because the girl who sang alone had come prepared, she dressed the part, and rocked the crowd, but went home because of one bad note. That was foolish, not to mention unfair. The rest of the singers ranged from completely awful to mediocre karaoke lounge singers. All in all not a bad show, but more "viable" contestants are sorely needed if this is to continue for 26 weeks.
