Earth Dance 2008 Moved

According to Carrie Schnepf of Schnepf farms, Saturday's Earth Dance 2008 has been moved from the Schnepf Farms location where workers have been setting up for the event since this morning to a warehouse on 5th Avenue and Madison (most likely Boo's warehouse) in Phoenix after the Town of Queen Creek shut down the event this afternoon.

"I was baffled," Schnepf said in a phone interview with New Times.

Schnepf said representatives from the Town of Queen Creek and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Intelligence Unit closed down the festival around 4:30 today.

"The Town of Queen Creek and the MCSO Intelligence Unit decided that people that attend events like these are druggies," Schnepf said. "We weren't even serving alcohol."

Attempts were made by New Times to reach Earth Dance 2008 promoter Jeff Jordan as well as Queen Creek and the MCSO, but all have so far been unsuccessful. We will be bringing you more on this story as it develops.

I'm reading so many comments from people who are angry because they say the above article labels ravers and dance music fans as "druggies." But nowhere does New Times state this in the story, people. Read a little more closely before you go off. The word "druggies" is used once -- in a quote from Carrie Schnepf, who was expressing that she thought the MSCO viewed people "who attend these events as druggies." New Times never called anybody druggies. If you re-read the above story and still get that impression, then you probably ARE on drugs.
I think this is all fulll of shit. Sorry 14-15 year olds ruined our times at snchep farms. not everyones a druggie.
@Victor: The difference is, people at a rap concert aren't screaming "Look at me! I'm 15 years old hanging out in my underwear on the verge of overdosing!"
@Kelly: Angry Raver said it himself... "we do drugs and love each other". Are you serious?? Kids are flaunting their illegal activities all over the internet and then get p*$ed off when somebody calls them a druggie. Maybe if the rave scene wasn't chock full of people without an ounce of discretion and an equally low supply of common sense, people would have a different opinion of you. My advice... don't get angry at the New Times. Get angry with your fellow ravers for glorifying underage drug use.
I dont think the United states tries to prevent us from gathering peacefully. They know there are drugs at these parties abd they go after them for allowing people to do drugs. The real problem here is law enforcement has decided that raves are the only place that does this. I would bet my paycheck youll find just as many illegal drugs at a rap concert or a rock concert but the cops look the other way because promoters for those shows can afford to hire a full staff of police officers at the cost of thousands of dollars. Most rave promoters cannot afford that kind of force and end up getting cheaper security. Another thing that doesnt help is that there are a few serious promoters out there that d o everything right and try and keep drugs from being sold in their shows and keep people safer. the handfull that dont give a shit and throw parties where there is no enforcement of any kind on drug dealers and no security and illegal venues are the ones who make it harder to legitimize a music that we all love.
@ Reality: So you're generalizing everyone as druggies because dontstayin.com is where all the little drug children hang out? That's a pretty stupid assumption and really shows how bias and ignorant New Times is. I thought New Times was smarter than to generalize a whole scene off of one individual website.. Guess I was wrong. Its pretty funny that the rest of the world has no problems with Electronic Dance Music Festivals yet the United States of America does everything in their power to eliminate our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS to GATHER PEACEFULLY as Americans. And again: You're foolish to generalize a whole scene and lifestyle based on one website that's dedicated to little children and their drugs. New Times is truely ignorant.
wow. pretty rude of this article to call us all druggies. people need to realize what ravers stand for. despite not everyone being sober, EVERYONE has good intentions. ravers are considered the new age hippies. what's so wrong with that? at least we do drugs and love each other, not do drugs and fight, or other stupid shit.

perception is reality. As long as ravers flaunt blatant drug use, raves will be perceived as drug parties. Just read some threads over on dontstayin.com if you think I'm out of line.
I cant believe you Label Ravers as DRUGGIES! Why becuase we are peaceful and happy... But they will alow a Punk show with a bunch of drunk punks who's style of dancing is punching and pushing each other around? I think people are basing the rave scene to much on movies and the media. People that go to regualar concerts do drugs! Do u label them Druggies??? Well i think what people are forgetting is EDM is a form of music.. A rave is like a concert for our type of music... thats all! Its not a drug fest .. yes some people have been cuaght doing drugs.. but they also catch people at regular concerts doing DRUGS... I just really hope people understand that we are loving peaceful people that dont want to bother any one .. we just want to live in peace and dance our nites away ...
What I don't appreciate, is how the United States of America is suposed to be a Democracy, yet we citizens of the United States cannot even gather in a public place peacefully without the law 'crashing down on us' What makes Earthdance so different from Edgefest? The fact that Electronic Dance Music of all genres is being played while Rock and Roll will be played at Edgefest? Whatever happened to the Constitutional right to gather peacefully without harrassment from authortive figures? So Earthdance is a place for 'druggies' to come together according to New Times.. Isn't it a bit too hypocritical to state that Earthdance is a 'drug-haven' when Edgefest has more Marijuanna and Alcohol (which IS a drug by dictionary definiton) than any "rave" I've ever been to has, and its more publicly used and accepted! How is a dance about promoting Peace, Love, Unity, and the Respect of others, worse than a rock and roll concert with Mosh pits and violence? It really disgusts me as an American that I have had my CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS taken away from me by special interest groups and corrupt politicians. I am also a Producer of Electronic Dance Music and I have been since the age of thirteen. Electronic Dance Music Festivals are the only place i've ever been truely accepted for who I am, not what I PRETEND to be like most concerts i've ever been to in my life. It just really sickens me that New Times would be so ignorant as to bash on something that corrupt politicians and special interest groups have destroyed with lies and hearsay. Be smart. Do some research before you play sides and be bias.
So wait. They won't let a a rave happen in QC because of DRUGGIES... But they're going to have a huge music festival with punk bands and even PAUL OAKENFOLD there. How are there not DRUGGIES at that? The reasoning here sucks. The logic makes no sense. If Earthdance wasn't allowed to happen, then neither should this Edgefest thing.
Basically they canceled an event that was made to promote world piece. These events are non-violent and with the only real problems that happen are overdoses, which still are rare. Still this event was lead off by a prayer from a renown Buddhist. Wouldn't surprise me if that had something to do with it. It surprises me because they are going to throw edge fest there. Do they think there won't be drugs there? If they do they are heavily mistaken not to mention the crowd is much more rowdy then any of the electronic crowd. Just shows how out of touch these guys are, good thing it is an election season.
Ironic that the fucking NEW TIMES would post about the travesty of the event not going off at Schnepf Farms and how bad Sherrif Joe is, yet post that article for Helen from the Icehouse about Boo last year, fucking up the event scene in Arizona and bringing so much fucking heat on our community to cause it to get shut down from Schnepf Farms in the FIRST PLACE. With the sick sick irony of it all they had to migrate it to the 5th Ave wherehouse anyways to keep the show from failing! You fuckers post what is ever in your best interest and I hope you all die.
Yeah I mean, the people allowing these parties to go on know there are drugs goin on at these things. The thing is they know it's going on anyway so they just want to contain it and control it in a confined area. Like you said though, they go after the drug dealers and snag them, seen it many times. The music is awesome! On a liter note, to the people that did this event and DJ's that stuck around, i just want to say thank you and that it was an excellant recovery! It wasn't what it was suppose to be but it was still a GREAT party, I chilled in the kookah tingy for most of the night!!!
I am a DJ that played at Earthdance tonight. It is a real shame the venue got cancelled but thanks to the promoters we were able to make the best of it even though it wasnt in the venue of choice. Im going to fill you people in on something. Dance music is a world genre and most of us in this scene love this type of music. If you have been to any concert you will know there is booze and drugs here and there. It is no different for the Dance Music scene. There will always be a few people on drugs here and there but what they dont tell you is that drug dealers are kicked out and arrested and that most of us like myself do not do drugs. I was sober all day and so was everyone I know that came to see me and all of my friends. Its really a shame that in America this type of music is deemed drug music when its one of the most popular types of music anywhere else in the world. Is it really so impossible to think that people enjoy music with a strong rhythm that we can all dance to without being high since there are no traditional instruments? I am a producer and dj of this music and a record label owner and I DON"T do drugs and the ratio of people I know into this music that do drugs is the exact same ratio of people that do drugs that listen to other types of music. Maybe some of you discredit it as music since it doesnt have a guitar or lyrics. I will tell you right now that as a producer I can knock out a four instrumetn rock song in two hours but dance musci requires composing with upwards ten to twenty virtual instruments and numerous effects. This music take serious talent and that is why it is mainstream everywhere else in the world. I love this music and so do many of my friends and most of us don't do drugs. Every time I think that I'm not going to be surprised anymore at what Sheriff Joke's department does, something like this proves me wrong. So, am I supposed to believe that because the Earth Dance will be moved to downtown Phoenix that that's where 'druggies' are allowed to be? The reasoning here makes absolutely no sense to me. Seems to me that you can make the case for shutting something down AFTER something illegal takes place. And these are the same yay-hoos who won't lift a finger when you ask for help because someone has threatened you because they say 'we can't do anything until the person does something to you.' I guess the Queen Creek votes are vital to Joke's election strategery. Now he can boast that he kept the druggies out of QC. Idiot.
