Decades Music Theme Park proposal passes Senate vote, heads for Governor Napolitano’s Desk

Wed Jun 25, 2008 at 03:04:50 PM

By Niki D’Andrea

Back in November of last year, I wrote about a blog about the Decades Music Theme Park, a massive amusement park with areas themed by decade (‘50s through ‘80s) and rides with rock ‘n’ roll themes.

I initially made fun of the concept, primarily because of the proposed location for the park: Eloy, Arizona, a small city that lies alongside a stretch of the I-17 South between Phoenix and Tucson. It’s never exactly been a haven for tourists.

But proponents and supporters are apparently taking the park very seriously, as yesterday, the park proposition (Senate Bill 1450) passed with a 17-9 vote. The legislation already passed earlier this year with a 17-11 vote, but was struck down 39-17 in the House of Representatives after the bill was amended.

The bill now heads to the Governor’s office, where Janet Napolitano will decide its fate. We’ll keep you posted.

Isn't Eloy off I-10? Why is the state deciding on this? is this another private venture that will be paid for w/ our tax dollars?

Wow this is GREAT news! We've seen so many great concerts on those grounds and it's a PERFECT location for concerts! Rides will be GREAT as well! Rides in the summer heat? I dunno how you can pull that off but... willing to hear what you have going on. Neighboring the town of Ahwatukee is a major PLUS. People think Eloy, why there? Eloy is home of one of the TOP 5 Sky Diving places in the US! Sky Dive Arizona!!! We haven't had an amusment park in Arizona since the 80's (I believe it was the 80's) I run a hotline (phone line) for the Arizona Music Scene here in the valley and we fully support this idea! Stay positive! It'll all work out just fine if it's meant to be, so shall it be! Much respect ~Sunshine Sciaudone email contact inisunshine@yahoo.com

I do like the idea of a new theme park.. The Arizona heat does not pose that much of a problem it can easily be combated with proper shading, misting systems, indoor shops / venues, and water rides..

The problem with the proposal is the proposed theme. Rock and Roll? You really expect to attract everyone one to a theme park targeted towards one music genre? (I for one can't stand rock!)

Targeting a specific crowd equals loss in potential revenue!!

There is an up side to building a theme park in Arizona though.. You will make a killing selling sunscreen lotion LOL
