Benjamin Leatherman conjures local YouTube lore

Phoenix New Times Clubs Editor Benjamin Leatherman finds more cool and quirky YouTube videos than anyone else I know. He's responsible for embedding stuff like this intense-looking hamster in the comments on my MySpace page, and also subjects me to things like this twisted Chris Benoit parody on occasion.

But he also finds some of the most amazing music clips, too. So when he suggested a weekly Wednesday blog called "It Came from YouTube," wherein he'd post some of his Phoenix-related video finds, I said, "Right on."

Benjamin was among the first people to catch locals Obadiah Parker's now-famous "Hey Ya" cover (which featured in a bit on the Howard Stern show). And he told me about some other really cool stuff he found (like some old footage of shows at the now-defunct and much-missed Phoenix rock club The Mason Jar). I don't want to give too many details away, though, because knowing Benjamin, he'll have some fun tricks up his sleeve. His first Wednesday post goes up later today, and it's a good one.
