We're Doomed: Spa Introduces Flaming, Potion-Soaked Towel Treatment to Reduce Sagging and Wrinkles

Arizona Spa Week is around the corner and the annual collection of $50 treatments were announced this week. On the list are signature massages, skin treatments, and facials at some of the best spas in town, but if you want the hottest treatment on the market, you're going to have to skip town.

This year, a brain trust of Japanese beauty specialists introduced their patrons to the the Huǒ liáo, in which a towel soaked in alcohol and a "special elixir" is placed on the legs, face, or other parts of the body -- and set on fire.

Is it getting hot in here?

It's never a bad time for a day at the spa. How we envy those who slip away during the week (or the weekend) to get a massage or a skin treatment . . .

But this April, Spa Week is pulling together a collection of Arizona spas that are marking down some of their best treatments (running anywhere from $100 to $450) to $50. Girlfriends and boyfriends, pay attention: If you want to score some serious points (or hell, book one or two for yourself), here are just 10 participating Arizona spas now taking reservations for spa treatments for April 15 through 21.

And your list of participating spas will be released on Monday.

But before we get there, here's the skinny: During National Spa Week (April 15-21), local spas slash prices on their signature treatments. We're talking $50 for treatments and services that are usually $85 to $450.

A complete list of participating spas will be posted on the Spa Week website on Monday, March 11. Reservations can then be made/fought over. The only hard part might be waiting until April . . .

Arizona Grand Resort

IWhile this weekend might be your last chance to enjoy the cool weather, it's also time to start scoping out your go-to spots for when things really heat up.

Pool hopping is as much of a summer sport in Phoenix as people watching in the air-conditioned shopping centers.

So get out a notebook and grab your bikini (and your wallet). Here are our ten favorite pools in the Valley

10. Arizona Grand Resort
The Pointe at South Mountain wasn't too shabby, but $52 mil can buy some killer upgrades and an awful lot of water. That's why the remodeled luxury hotel, now called the Arizona Grand Resort, was a shoe-in for one of our favorite pools in town.  There's an eight-story tower with three water slides, a huge wave pool with waterfalls, and a faux river perfect for inner tubing. Order a frozen margarita at the swim-up bar or relax in the 25-person hot tub while the little ones play beach volleyball in the kid-friendly Wild Cat Springs. The only downside is that Oasis Park is for resort guests only, so you'll have to sneak in, splurge for a romantic local getaway, or schmooze your way into a company freebie.

Arizona Spa Week starts in less than a month (we're talking 21 days), and from October 10 to 16, spa fiends will flood the nearly 30 spas offering $50 treatments.

Planning out Spa Week activities is a must. Appointments book up fast, and some spas, including Golden Door, are already full. Since there are so many treatments to choose from, we picked out five favorite treatments at local spas that still had available appointments as of September 18.

See our picks after the jump.

Five Must-Reserve Spa Week Deals in Phoenix

Catching up on trashy gossip mags while a manicurist primps and polishes your nails is pretty damn close to heavenly. Add a mimosa into the mix ('cause, why not?), and there goes the rest of the day. Oh, to relax.

But once you add up the receipts from all those manis, pedis, facials, and massages (and cocktails), it becomes oh-so-apparent that relaxation and beautification come at a premium.

During Spa Week, from October 10 through 16, select Arizona spas offer up deals on everything from body wraps to acupuncture.

Natch, there's a catch. To ensure that you get the treatments you want when you want, booking appointments in advance is recommended.

To get ahead of the game, local spas are also offering treatments leading up to the official Spa Week.

See a roundup of current deals leading up to Spa Week after the jump.

In an unlikely (and totally drool-worthy) collaboration, Aji Spa at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort and ASU Gammage will host a Summer Spa Day with sneak peek visuals of the upcoming theater season.

Just don't splash the artwork.

The all-day package includes a full body 50-minute Swedish Massage, lunch in Aji Café and access to the spa's swimming pool, instructor-led fitness classes, steam room, and sauna (though you might save the sauna treatment for the car ride home).

Sneaking into the Best Pools in Phoenix

Oops, we didn't see the sign
Over the weekend, we celebrated the official start of summer by visiting (and sneaking into) a few of the Valley's finest hotel pools in hopes of cooling off from the 110-degree weather.

We came across some pretty kick-ass cement ponds in the process reserved for "resort guests only," and some not-so-nice security guards.

See where we succeeded and failed to get into some greater Phoenix's best resort pools, plus a few tips on how to enjoy their refreshing, chlorinated greatness ... without being a guest.

Summer Vacation: Three Places to Relax in the Valley

We're super envious of kindergartners and college kids. Not because they get away with doing stupid shit like pissing themselves or napping through class, but because we're mad jealous they have summers off.

Sure, everyone would love a three-month break, but not everyone has that luxury. We've got bills to pay, (and blogs to write). However every now and then, we like to splurge on a mini staycation in our own backyard to escape the daily grind.

Check out some of our favorite places 'round to the Valley to do just that.
