On Monday night, during Roosevelt Row's annual fundraiser to benefit arts programming in downtown Phoenix, you'll have 26 chances to snatch up a letter block created by a local artist.

From A to Z, the letters are constant in size, but vary in style. Roosevelt Row's Cindy Dach says each will be up for individual bid of $100, but if someone bids at least $2600 for all 26 letters, they take the set home.

Steam Crow
Pardon the squeals you may have just heard coming from the New Times office in downtown Phoenix. We just spotted what Phoenix designers Daniel and Dawna Davis (aka Steam Crow) have been working on for Phoenix Comicon.

Daniel says the Steam Crow team creates a limited-edition print for each of the comic shows and convention they attend. And this year, after they decided to cancel their first, superhero-themed print for Comicon, they returned to their favorite subject: Monsters.

Oh yeah, Valentine's Day is just a month away, and you have it all in the bag -- except that you haven't actually thought about Valentine's Day because it comes so quickly after all those other holidays, and now you have to find something cute for someone cute.

No need to fret. We have just the (local) solutions. Here are five Valentine's Day gifts made by Phoenix artists.

1. "All You Need is Love" Men's Tee by Karina Manarin -- $22
This hand screen-printed tee by Tempe artist Karina Miller is just enough to spell it out  -- without having to get all gushy. Miller writes on her etsy page that she highlighted certain keys on each typewriter with red dye to spell her favorite lyric from The Beatles. Grab one here

Lindsay Tingstrom Launches Letterpress Project Acorn & Whale

Phoenix graphic designer Lindsay Tingstrom isn't just making a list of New Year's resolutions this year -- she's hanging them on her walls.

Tingstrom, formerly one-third of SeeSaw Designs, launched her new letterpress project Acorn & Whale earlier this month with a series of minimalist prints inspired by New Year's resolutions.

Tingstrom's resolutions stray from the typical "Learn to Knit" and "Go to the Gym," and instead explore broader self-improvement tactics. She says "Live Every Day" was the first print she  designed as a reminder to herself to take life as it came.

Cycle: Five Gifts for the Bike Geek

bikegiftguide.jpg
Ignore what the spouse, partner or family member of any cyclist says; cyclists are incredibly easy to shop for. Just drop by a bike shop and look for something that looks cool and it's guaranteed to be a hit (even if the recipient already has it 'cause the only thing better than owning some bike item is owning multiples).

For those of you still struggling to find that "just right" gift for the bike fanatic you're burdened with, here are five items from shops around the valley that run the gamut from fun and affordable to outright extravagant.

The ultimate for any fixie hipster looking for that last touch to set their rig apart. Cinelli has been leading the game in terms of bar wrap tape forever, and now they've partnered with tattoo and pop artist Mike Giant for this edition strewn with Giant tattoo icons. It's hard to find, but Landis Cyclery is always happy to place a quick special order in time to get the bars wrapped for a NYE bike crawl. But get it now before all of the hipsters are sporting it. Awkward!
