Everyone knows it's different strokes for different folks. But what if your view of the world isn't so much about where you come from as it is what you come from? At the ongoing workshop series The Perks and Perils of Prvilege, ASU Project Humanities looks at how individual experiences dictate social or political choices from voter and marriage rights to immigration and healthcare. In these workshops, participants will share, learn, and reflect on the experiences that guide both the complementary and the contrasting choices of others.
"The Perks and Perils of Privilege" presented by Allison Parker of African American Literature, Rhetoric, and Women and Gender Studies at South Mountain Community College will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, July 14, at Pomegranate Cafe, 4025 East Chandler Boulevard, Suite 28. Admission is free. For details and a look at future workshops, visit humanities.asu.edu or call 480-727-7030. -- Katie Johnson
Want to turn your noontime meal into something more naughty? Petit dejeuner gets a whole lot more provocative when it's accompanied by a live performance of Risque Business. In this daring depiction of Broadway, out-of-luck actors aspiring to be in director Lord Delacor's wild depiction of Great White Way bend over backward to work their way into his graces and into the show. Who will make the cut and who will be cut off? There's only one way to find out.
Risque Business is part of Lunch Time Theater at Herberger Theater, 222 East Monroe Street. Showtime is 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, July 15 through July 24. Tickets are $6. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lunch or purchase one from the theater ahead of time. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.herbergertheater.org or call 602-254-7399. -- Katie Johnson
