Courting Disaster is Jackalope Ranch's weekly column of dating horror stories, observations, how-tos, and more by Katie Johnson. Names of ex-boyfriends, past hookups, and bad blind dates have been changed to protect the guilty.

When it comes finding love, it's all about being in the right place at the right time. And, while I hardly feel qualified to tell you the when and who particulars of your future soul mate (hell, I can't even do it for myself), I can certainly help you with the where. Because dating is a lot like real estate: It's all about location, location, location

And maybe your choice of hardwood or carpet.

Shady's Fine Ales & Cocktails

When I first moved back to Phoenix I was desperately looking for a place to meet guys. I wasn't interested in joining a gym or the 20-30 club. Ideally, I wanted a Phoenix bar that lacked pretension as much as it did convicted felons. I found my answer in Shady's. This bar is as simple as it is social, offering a nice bar, pool table, and heavily populated smoking patio for a healthy does of average Joe's and Joe-drinking hipsters to talk over fine ales and cocktails.

I personally have met men through bars, and been in a few relationships as well, but now being in the late 20's I sort of feel the scene at times involves more younger men, so off late I have also been trying out the some of the free dating sites in USA like MeetOutside http://www.meetoutside.com, idea being given by some long time friends, and I feel that after interacting a lot through chat and then exchanging contact info I was surprised that these places are pretty solid when it comes to meet men for long term relationships, lots of them were looking for marriage through dating, wanted to fall in love so guess it is good for the singles, the complete internet dating thing.

If you actually read it, it says hi fi "If you're not as concerned with finding Mr. Right as your are with Mr. Right Now, this glitzy going out spot is your sure ticket for either a sugar daddy, smooth operator, or a one night stand" - seems like it was intended to be for people with bad taste...

HAHAHAHA! With the exception of the dog park this is the worst list ever. Who the hell meets people at bars?!?!? LOL. And Hi-Fi?!? You can't hear ourself think there it's so loud. I can't believe you paid this person to write this article. And yes I can come up with a better list.

A more honest title will be "Places Owned by Our Clients That We Want To Keep (So Go!)"

Jennifer Salazar I need friends to go out. The problem is that I never have time or money, and I'm into stuff that most people are not into. But I'll take your invite soon ;-)

Every place on the list is a bar with the exception of the dog park and cartel...

@Angie Rivera-What you need is a good group of friends to go out with to paint the town red! You're more than welcomed to come dancing with us! :)

How about book club, library, church, gym, bookstore, running group...

That's what I was thinking Nathan Schneider. But given my bad luck with men lately, I guess I'll give it a shot to the places I haven't been yet. I'll never go to Hi-Fi and I haven't met a single person at Lux Central or Crescent Ballroom. A friend of mine met a guy at the concert we both attended, so I think my problem is that I'm ugly, fat and poor.

Bar, bar, bar, douchebag Hi-Fi club, dog park, bar, bar, coffee place...
