Top 5 Things to Do in Metro Phoenix This Weekend
Crafeteria @ Medlock Plaza
Year after year we promise we'll make our own gifts, trying our hand at the Etsy-worthy goodies we have on our Pinterest boards. "We'll learn to sew!" we think. "We can carve wood!"
Every year we fall short. The good news is Phoenix is home to a plethora of creative types who actually can sew or carve wood, and for one night a year their pieces gather in one convenient craft haven.
For the eighth year in a row, Frances presents Crafeteria, a market of more than 40 local artists boasting a variety of 100 percent handmade goods. There will be earthy jewelry from MerMade, cute cards from Floating Specks, and even wood carved tobacco pipes from Maple House.
Hot dogs from Short Leash and Stinkweeds-sponsored live music round out the night, making it a multi-sensory affair.
Get crafty from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, December 6, in the Medlock Plaza, 10 West Camelback Road. Visit www.francessmeeks.com/crafeteria. -- Janessa Hilliard
Phoenix Suns vs. Toronto Raptors @ US Airways
The city of Toronto has been gobbling up a lot of headlines lately, or, at least, its mayor has. And the man looks like he knows how to gobble. Meanwhile, the Toronto Raptors have clawed their way to a tenuous division lead, which is rather newsworthy considering they share a division with the mighty Knicks and Nets.
But Jason Kidd's Nets are in shambles and the Knicks' bloated payroll is yielding paltry returns. That has allowed the T-Raps to sneak into first place despite wallowing at the .500 mark heading into December. The Phoenix Suns haven't had such a luxury. Though their record has closely mirrored Toronto's thus far, it has only earned them a spot in the middle of the Pacific division.
Still, the two young teams oughta be evenly matched when they collide at 7 p.m. Friday, December 6, at US Airways Center, 201 East Jefferson Street. Tickets start at $21.70. Visit www.nba.com/suns or call 602-379-2000 for details. -- Rob Kroehler
