Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special to Screen in Metro Phoenix
In case your Whovian senses haven't been at a full buzz the past few weeks, with all of the trailers, episode stills, and mini-episodes being released in anticipation for the 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who, make sure you catch one of the screenings of this monumentous nerdtacular occasion in Valley theatres on Monday, November 25. Chances are you'll find your way to the episode on its release night November 23, but, whether you have the opportunity to see it before its Phoenix theatrical release, you should still seize the opportunity to see it in -- wait for it -- 3D.
Courtesy of the BBC. Three doctors, one night, 9 Valley theaters -- prepare yourself for the 50th Anniversary special.
The episode, which features both current doc Matt Smith and former and fan favorite doc David Tennant, along with companions Rose Tyler and Clara Oswin Oswald and the mysterious "war doctor," played by John Hurt, is sure to be rich in nerdgasms and Doctor Who references new and old. If it's anything like the "Night of the Doctor" mini-webisode released earlier this month, "The Day of the Doctor" will definitely warrant one excited squee after another.
It's clear after watching the trailers that we'll gain some insight into the Time War, a much mentioned but highly enigmatic battle between the Time Lords of Gallifrey and the evil Daleks that nearly ripped the universe apart and still weighs on the Doctor's conscience heavily. During the war, John Hurt will fill the role as the Doctor, who puts his warrior pants on to save time and space as we know it.
Regardless of if that plot line is as titillating for you as it is us (but it really should be), it'll be enough reason to drop in to the AMC Arizona Center 24 or Cinemark Mesa 16 theaters to envision yourself comfortably nestled between the tenth and eleventh doctors in 3D. A total of 9 local theatres will be screening the special on November 25 with showings at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online, along with more information, on the Fathom Events website.
