Grumpy Cat, the most famous feline in the Valley -- if not the entire Internet, made its first-ever public appearance on Sunday afternoon at Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe and more than a few fans were there for the occasion. Employees at the store estimate that more than a thousand people waited in line for several hours for the chance to get their photograph with the local Internet sensation, whose real name is Tardar Sauce.

People came sporting Grumpy Cat T-shirts, clutching hand-drawn pictures of the local kitty, and ready to do their impression of the cat's famous scowl. They stood in line patiently for their 30 seconds of interaction with Tardar Sauce and her owner Tabatha Bundesen.

Some folks, like Phoenix's Amie Peterman, even showed off the Grumpy Cat tattoo she has on her right arm.

"Grumpy Cat is my spirit animal, which I'm sure a lot of people have said today," Peterman says.

No, but I was right outside eating a salad. It felt like a pilgrimage to Tibet if Tibet were in a shopping center.
