It looks like the folks behind downtown Phoenix's Rusty Spoke Bicycle Collective have packed up their pedals and headed to a new place to park their rides.

The nonprofit and volunteer-run bike co-operative -- which serves as a DIY repair spot, grassroots cycling resource, and community event space -- spent last weekend moving to a new location that's a little more than a mile south of its former home along Grand Avenue.

After enlisting the assistance of friends and volunteers, Rusty Spoke's organizers relocated the co-op from a space near McKinley Street and 13th Avenue to a "bigger and better" spot inside the PHX BikeLab, a like-minded and cycle-oriented organization located at Seventh Avenue and Grant Street in the heart of the downtown warehouse district. (It's new address is 740 West Grant Street.)

It isn't the first time that Rusty Spoke, which was founded in 2008, has gone through a move. The co-op was originally based out of now-defunct Fifth Street art space the Longhouse before relocating to Bragg's Pie Factory over on Grand Avenue within a year. It later moved down the slanted street in 2011.

Besides providing tools, workspace, repair assistance, bicycling advocacy, and low-cost/no-cost bikes to downtowners, Rusty Spoke has also functioned over the years as a meeting spot for all manner of radical, grassroots, and community organizations, as well as an event space for movie screenings, rock shows, vegan potlucks, and even the occasional dance party.

The next month will apparently be spent unpacking and getting settled into their new home, as one of the most recent updates to Rusty Spoke's Facebook page states that proprietors expect to reopen the establishment in its new location by September 1.

"Hopefully, we can open sooner," they state.
