Empty storefronts are about to get a whole lot more exciting again, thanks to local public arts organization IN FLUX. For the the fourth year in a row, IN FLUX is working to bring a series of temporary installations to vacant spaces across the Valley.

But the spaces don't fill themselves. IN FLUX is looking for 16 or more artists to re-imagine and repurpose these sites in the coming months.

The opportunities offered this year are spread across eight cities -- Chandler, Glendale, Gilbert, Goodyear, Mesa, Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe -- in partnership with 10 local arts organizations.

Artists can apply either individually or as a group. Selections will be made by a panel of representatives from participating organizations.

After the selection process, artists will work directly with their assigned partner organization. Project budgets vary, but will include labor, transportation, equipment rental, shipping, and material costs.

Prior the the submission deadline, IN FLUX Project Managers are offering a series of one-on-one coffee talks to answer questions of prospective applicants. For more information on these, take a look at the official call.

And if it's your first time working with public art, don't be shy. According to the website, "these opportunities are intended to be tenable for those who may not have previously applied for a public art project in addition to providing a fresh approach to artists who have public art experience."

The deadline for applications is September 16 at midnight. Artists will be selected at the beginning of October.
