Summer's around the corner, which means there's plenty of time to get creative (and finish a few projects) before the heat sets in.

Lucky you, there happen to be a handful of great opportunities for local artists to have their work displayed and recognized.

3. HEAT at Practical Art
Practical Art's second HEAT exhibition will feature work from local artists during July. (Yes, the hottest month of the year.) And they're looking for work that relates to heat in any interpretation. Mountable works less than 32 inches (horizontally) submitted by April 30 will be judged by a panel of local community members including Kimber Lanning of Local First Arizona, Donna M. Valdés of Xico Inc, Kathleen Vanesian of Phoenix New Times, Kathryn Blake of Phoenix Art Museum, and more.

To submit, email up to five images in JPG format (Note: Images should be sized at 1000 pixels on the longest side with a resolution of 72 ppi. Number your files following the format: "01_lastname.jpg, and include title, medium, retail price, and dimensions of framed submission) as well as an artist statement, bio or CV to by May 15. Accepted entries will be displayed in a gallery exhibition at Practical Art, 5070 N Central Avenue, from July 1 to July 31.
