TalkCinema Brings Sneak Previews of Indie and Foreign Films to Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts
Who can truly be satisfied only watching the trailer of a film before it's released. For true film buffs this only adds to the longing and desire to get to the multiplex on release day (with tickets purchased in advance, of course).

But why wait? Instead, get the jump on the masses and enjoy sneak previews of award-winning indie and foreign films with noted film critic Harlan Jacobson's TalkCinema, continuing at the Virginia G. Piper Theatre in the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 5.

"Smart films for smart people" is the motto of Jacobson's film concept where a limited-size audience enjoys advance screenings of upcoming flicks culled from major film festivals worldwide. Following each film, the audience takes the next step becoming film critics. The post-film discussions are said to get quite lively, but are moderated by "distinguished" guest speakers. Past speakers have included NPR's Bob Mondello, The Chicago Tribune's Michael Phillips, Gerald Peary of The Boston Phoenix, and FilmLinc's Richard Pena, among others.
Films are selected exclusively by Jacobson and have included: Hermano, Declaration of War, The Salt of Life, Two Days in New York, and Melancholia. The next screening features ... oops, organizers don't say; noting only that the film comes from a leading international festival.

Future screenings take place March 19, April 16 and May 7.
