Wobble Works Introduces 3Doodler, The World's First 3D Printing Pen
Doodling is about to get a whole lot more interesting.

In just a week, Wobble Works -- the toy company brain child of Peter Dilworth, an MIT Leg Laboratory and Media Lab grad, and Maxwell Bogue, a graduate of Purdue University's Computer Science Program -- raised almost $2 million to fund their latest project, the 3Doodler.

The two admittedly like to doodle -- and like things in 3D -- and so the 3Doodler was born. The pen allows the artist to draw in the air and create an ABS plastic (a plastic used by many 3D printers) object.
According to its makers, the 3Doodler "extrudes heated plastic, which quickly cools and solidifies into a strong stable structure. This allows you to build an infinite variety of shapes and items with ease. Most people will instantly be able to trace objects on paper, and after only a few hours of practice will be able to make far more intricate objects."
The pen doesn't require software or a complicated computer hookup -- just plug it into a power socket and in a few minutes (and not too unlike a glue gun) the pen will leave a trail of quick-drying plastic in the air or on a surface.
The project is well beyond its original Kickstarter goal, but those interested in backing the project and getting a 3Doodler can still toss a few bucks into the pot (the pen will cost you a $75 contribution) .
