Heidi Abrahamson Captivates Classic Style at Downtown Phoenix's Metro Retro
|Keeping it in the family, this black alligator bag was Heidi's mothers from the '60s.|
Do I have to name just one? I can't. I love what I have. To keep up with the times, I put things together a little differently to keep current. I love vintage. I have a pair of 1940s jodhpurs that are dear to me. I have a Peppernell late 1930s chambray shirt that my husband Douglas found that I adore. My favorite thing, I suppose, is a simple black dress that I have, an Yves St. Laurent simple back dress from Vintage Fashion, Inc. that I can make look different every time I wear it.
What's a fashion trend you can't stand?
UGG boots, pajama pants ... I don't know really one specific thing, but I do think people could dress better. You really don't have to spend money to look good. I hardly ever, and I could probably count on one hand the times I've spent full retail. I am inspired when I look at fashion magazines. I study them from beginning to end. I then look at my pieces, then go from there. Like I said, put things together a little differently to make it current.
Give us a childhood memory of you and your clothes...
More like me and my mother's clothes! When I was home by myself, I would try on her clothes and jewelry.
What do you like to accessorize with?
Jewelry. I love my scarves. I worked at Hermes in the early '80s and started collecting scarves then. I have three drawers full of scarves, all kinds.
Name five items every woman should have in their closet....
1. A classic little black dress.
2. A good blazer.
3. Nice flats.
4. A silk scarf.
5. A classic handbag.
What's your piece of fashion advice for Phoenix?
Study your fashion magazines. Look in the mirror before you leave the house. Keep it simple, polished.
