Mixologist Richie Moe Talks Shopping Strategies and Confessions with Laurie Notaro for this Year's Shine
Once a year, New Times puts the spotlight on Scottsdale in SHINE, our annual pocket guide. As usual, the 2012 edition includes all the best spots to drink, dine, party, and get a culture fix. But this time around, we're really all about the merchandise. So break out your piggy bank and get ready for a little retail therapy.
Richie Moe has more than 15 years of experience behind the bar, and if you stop by Citizen Public House, you can ask him for a kick ass drink and a few good stories. Moe and Citizen's executive chef Bernie Kantak are the masterminds behind the innovative cocktail menu that pairs easily with the restaurant's dishes.

Author and Phoenix New Times contributor Laurie Notaro caught up with the mixologist to talk about his shopping habits and a few of his favorite spots for this year's Shine ...
Explain what kind of shopper you are: impulsive, strategic, cautious?
I'm a pretty strategic shopper. I go for investment pieces that I know I'll keep for a long time. Whether it be a good watch, new shoes, a shirt or an accessory, I have to be confident that it'll be timeless in order to buy it.
What is your biggest weakness -- are you a sucker for sales, a certain silhouette, functionality, or something else?
A well-tailored suit. I don't wear them much but it makes such a difference when it's perfect.
What is the most extreme action you've ever taken to acquire a piece?
I spent 2 months tracking down a certain vintage Rolex from the 1950's. Finally found it on eBay and it was definitely worth the hunt.
What is the one object/piece you think everyone should have at least one of?
A good hat.
Best place in Scottsdale to shop?
Scottsdale Fashion Square. Everything you could ever imagine is there.
