The misadventures of one of America's favorite futuristic families continue tonight at the ASU Center for Science and the Imagination.

Brought to life in the early 1960s, The Jetsons introduced television audiences to a cast of characters immersed in technology of the future. George Jetson supports his family with a gig at Spaceley's Sprockets, while his wife Jane and household robot, Rosie, take care of children Judy and Elroy and Astro the dog.

For decades, the animated show set in 2064 carried technological themes as well as social commentary that Yinong Chen and Karin Ellison will discuss tonight in Tempe.

The Center for Science and the Imagination, which launched this year at ASU, aims to bring creatives and scientists together for collaborative lectures, discussions, and projects.

According to the Center for Science and the Imagination, Ellison's an expert in the history of science and technology, specifically the institutional history of American science and technology and the history of engineers and engineering in the US. She's the Associate Director of the Center for Biology, a Dean's Faculty Fellow in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and has examined the popular television show through the lens of the nuclear family.

Chen is a robotics and computing expert and Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering at ASU. She's an advisor for the ASU Robotics team, directs university-sponsored robotics cams for high school and middle school students, and has studied what The Jetsons tells us about robotics and human-technology relationships.

The two encourage the community to join them in Jetsons fandom and discussion from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight in Room 242 in the Memorial Union at ASU, 301 E Orange Mall in Tempe. For more information, check out the Center for Science and the Imagination website.
