Time to pound a few protein shakes and brush up on your local contemporary art -- this Friday's your chance to arm wrestle for some serious eye candy.

From 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art's SMoCA Lounge, local artists and art fans will duke it out for a piece by local artist Mayme Kratz.

Kratz donated one of her original, mixed-media sculptures for the event, which one strong-armed participant will win.

SMoCA's Tania Katan says the goal of Arm Wrestling for art is to "encourage museum-goers to become active performers, to provoke artists to strong-arm gallerists, and to inspire museums to redefine how we show our enthusiasm for contemporary art."

The event will also feature a lesson in arm wrestling from local fitness expert Richelle Melde and a talk about the artist by SMoCA's new Associate Curator Emily Stamey.

Tickets are $10 and all proceeds raised will benefit SMoCA's community-driven, tri-annual "GOOD 'N PLENTY" artist grant.

Katan explains how to arm wrestle below. Take notes:

Arm Wrestling tickets can be purchased through SMoCA's website or by calling 480-499-8587. The next GOOD 'N PLENTY event is on Dec. 14.
