Hocus Pocus Screening @ Roosevelt Growhouse
For kiddos who grew up in the 1990s, there's a canon of Halloween flicks and scary ephemera that truly terrified our smaller, sillier selves. From Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark? to The Nightmare Before Christmas and Casper (eh, we'll throw Halloweentown a bone, too) there was no shortage of spooky. But our favorite was always Hocus Pocus, with Bette Middler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the witchy Sanderson Sisters brought back from the dead thanks to one trying-to-be-cool kid named Max. Thora Birch, a cursed talking cat, cameos from Penny and Garry Marshall, and an über-douche called Ice round out the fun.
Get in on some throwback action when Roosevelt Growhouse screens Hocus Pocus in conjunction with Fifth Street's Third Friday frolicking. Admission is free. Guests are encouraged to arrive at 8:30 p.m. A preshow of cartoons begins at 8:45, and the film rolls at 9. Bring blankets, chairs, snacks, and (preferably) the ability to quote the movie from start to finish.
