When we last put the spotlight on 100 creative forces in Phoenix, it was no secret there were more than 100 individuals who were making waves in the local arts community. So in celebration of our Best of Phoenix issue, we're profiling 100 more. Welcome (back) to 100 Creatives.

Ashley Macias
Ashley Macias is a downtown Phoenix-based artist who says her work displays several elements from our natural environment, bringing awareness to the things we think, feel, and imagine. Macias describes her techniques in bold line work as inspired by the natural raw organic flow in plants, the aging of people, and a deeper conscious or visionary realm.

Macias is currently working on Scottsdale Public Art and SRP Arizona canal Front Festivals with fellow artist Isaac Nicolas Caruso.

I came to Phoenix with ... A open mind, a paintbrush, and a greater urge to contribute to the art community. I forgot my toothbrush though.

Ashley Macias
I create art because... art creates me. A bitter-sweet fluidity.

Im most productive when... I wait 'til the last minute after I tell myself I won't wait 'til the last minute.

I gather inspiration from... a blank canvas, the rest is up to my imagination.

Ashley Macias
I have learned the most from... consequences but life is more interesting that way and a good laugh for later. Panta Rhei.

Good work should always... have heart. The innate desire to express oneself and share it takes guts. One cannot expect praise all the time. If it's engaging and evoking criticism, imagination or facial expressions and you're proud of that work by the end of it, you've done something right.

The Phoenix Creative scene could use more... positive outlook and contribution. Phoenix is brewing talent fully capable of progression. Less energy exerted on complaints of what the scene lacks, more action to improve it . A stronger sense of unity and less ego can go a long way. As an art community, we need to make stronger connections to utilize and engage the right buyers and resources. Phoenix is just too big a city not to love.
