Categories: 100 Creatives

When we last put the spotlight on 100 creative forces in Phoenix, it was no secret there were more than 100 individuals who were making waves in the local arts community. So as we count down to our annual Best of Phoenix issue, we're profiling 100 more. Welcome (back) to 100 Creatives.

Victor Vasquez
Victor Vasquez is a graphic designer who's worked for the Fiesta Bowl, Arizona Science Center, Coldstone Creamery, RedBull and State Bicycle Co. I recently redesigned, JAVA Magazine where he's currently the Art Director.

Originally from El Paso, Vasquez says he always felt like the small city wasn't fast enough. He moved to Phoenix hoping to find new energy and new opportunities. "Phoenix is a city full of growing potential and talent," he says. "It has become my home and a city I love."

In his spare time, he says he keeps busy combining two of his passions: graphic design and bicycles at Heavy Pedal, a cycling culture and apparel brand with Terrence Patrick.

Victor Vasquez
I make art because . . . it's a voice. Whether it's a well thought out design or just a joke scribbled on a bathroom wall. There is always something to be said. It's all art.

I'm most productive when . . . inspired by the everyday experiences of life. Emotions and reactions are everything. In the creative process I'm usually thinking of how I can create a reaction or how this impact the end viewer. I try to make a connection with people.

Victor Vasquez
My inspiration wall is full of . . . Daily experiences. You live and you learn, you never know what will inspire you to create. Having an open mind and trying to understand what I don't.

I've learned the most from . . . my mistakes. Experiences are good but mistakes are crucial, they're like tattoos on your brain.

Good work should always . . . Create a reaction, good or bad otherwise it's just wasted talent, time and space.

The Phoenix creative scene could use more . . . Friendly competition. Don't strive to be as good as the last person or thing that inspired you, strive to be better. Watch, learn and try to be the best!
