When we last put the spotlight on 100 creative forces in Phoenix, it was no secret there were more than 100 individuals who were making waves in the local arts community. So as we count down to our annual Best of Phoenix issue, we're profiling 100 more. Welcome (back) to 100 Creatives

Taz Loomans
Taz Loomans is an architect, a writer, a real estate developer, and the head honcho at Blooming Rock. She's a first-generation immigrant (her family's Indian), who was born in Mozambique. She says she moved to Phoenix 22 years ago, but hasn't felt at home here until about 3 years ago.

"I live in the Woodlea neighborhood in a 1954 duplex that I redeveloped and I love that it is made of concrete block with weeping mortar," she writes. "I ride my bike almost everywhere, even in the summer. I recently was appointed to be on the Historic Preservation commission and I confess that I have fallen in love with mid century modern architecture, another reason why I love living in Phoenix now."

I came to Phoenix . . . from Indianapolis, IN with a 14-year-old's insecurities about herself, resentment at the upheaval of moving, and wonder at this very alien landscape.

I make art because . . . it brings meaning and joy to my life.

I'm most productive when . . .
I have a deadline - typical architect training.

My inspiration wall is . . .
full of photos of Oprah. I love Oprah and I want to be like her.

I've learned the most from . . .
being out on my own for the past 3 years, finding out what it is I want to do and building my business around it.

Good work should always . . .
reflect its creator's passion, personal investment and care.

The Phoenix creative scene could use more . . .
confidence and willingness to be loud and proud and just try stuff!
