Almost a year after Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art's curator Cassandra Coblentz packed her bags and headed to California, museum staff has announced that they'll be welcoming a new curator set to start this Fall.

Emily Stamey will join the SMoCA team as an associate curator in September. She was recently curator of modern and contemporary art at the Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita State University, Kansas.

SMoCA Director Tim Rodgers said in a release sent out this afternoon that Stamey is a natural fit for the museum: "Her substantial experiences in both curatorial and education, her accessible approach used to connect and educate audiences to contemporary art and museums, and her intelligence and enthusiasm made her the top candidate for the position."

Rodgers and Stamey will work together with assistant curator Claire Carter to oversee current and upcoming exhibitions.

According to museum staff, their schedule includes Stocked: Contemporary Art from the Grocery Store Shelves, with work by Damien Hirst, Jonathan Seliger, Lucy and Jorge Orta and Andy Warhol, and more. The exhibition was developed by Stamey for the Ulrich, will be shown at SMoCA in the summer of 2013.

Stamey has a degree in art history from Grinnell College, Iowa, and her MA and Ph.D. in art history from The University of Kansas, Lawrence.
