81: Robert Uribe

Categories: 100 Creatives

When we last put the spotlight on 100 creative forces in Phoenix, it was no secret there were more than 100 individuals who were making waves in the local arts community. So as we count down to our annual Best of Phoenix issue, we're profiling 100 more. Welcome (back) to 100 Creatives

Robert Uribe
Robert Uribe is the director of uribé boUtiqué, an online " only designer" vintage/modern clothing business.

Uribe was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Manhattan, where he says he developed a "city" style. His boutique specializes in vintage, though he says he often pairs retro with classic and preppy with chic.

I came to Phoenix . . . 7 years ago with my family from New York. I saw the opportunity where I could fuse the upscale New York style with relaxed Phoenix trends.

I make art because . . . I love to express individuality through fashion. Fashion is art. Just as art has endless possibilities, so does fashion, and the fun part is that through fashion anyone can always reinvent himself or herself.

I am most productive . . . When I set goals and build on a vision, talk about it with my creative circle and brainstorm. I dedicated my self to uribé boUtiqué... it's my job to be true to my vision and to keep on innovating my craft.

My inspiration wall is full of . . . Pictures of my kids, 80's and 90's fashion images, vintage Vogue pages, and sketches.

I've learned the most from . . . My mother. Her discipline, determination, and dedication are something I have been fortunate to learn from.

Good work should always . . . Come from within. I try to give it 110 percent, whether it's my project or a collaboration with an artist. People don't realize that creative work is just as intense, or sometimes more intense than other types of work. It's not worth my time doing "bad" work, or "mediocre" work.

The Phoenix creative scene could use . . . more Fashion shows.
