A Last-Minute (and Local) Guide to Mother's Day Gifts in Phoenix
Mother's Day is this Sunday (but you knew that, right?). Instead of making a last-minute trip to Walgreens on the morning of, frantically scouring the isles for a card, a light up rose and maybe one of those As Seen on TV items, why not get your mom something a little more personal, and better yet, local?
Here are five of our favorite local boutiques (and gift ideas) for Mother's Day shopping:
Check out MADE Boutique for local artisan goodies such as bike part wine stoppers ($25) for merlot drinking mamas, "fork off" tea towels ($18) for comic relief in the kitchen, and an assortment of solar powered tea lights ($10) to add natural flair in the backyard.
Hand-thrown ceramics are also a popular pick for mothers at MADE. Ceramic planters from Annette Weaver (featured $97.50) and Andrew King ($48) can be easily customized for Mom by inserting your own arrangement of flowers or herbs.
Recently opened Revera is great place to purchase locally formulated aromatherapy for Mom. Handmade and highly crafted, Revera carries everything from herbal face masks ($35), to rhatany "heel all" foot cream ($28), to mini milk bath baths ($5).
And if you're looking for a classic Mother's Day gift, they produce their own original perfumes ($65 for 50ml, $120 for 100ml) as well as custom-designed fragrances ($150 for 50ml), which should be ordered at least a day in advance. Bottles can even be engraved on location for a more personal touch.
Frances is a hotspot for trendy Mother's Day items such as colorful Orla Kiley purses ($200-$235), delicate Morse code necklaces ($45), and birthstone necklaces ($40 and up) that you can customize to symbolize the birth months of you and all your siblings (who will hopefully pitch in). They also have a couple Mother's Day themed books and handmade cards.
Frances Studio may be a "Pop up" shop but it's got Mom written all over it. Their spring/summer inventory features a lot of kitchen-themed goodies such as retro-inspired tablecloths ($45), fun and fruity tea towels ($10), old-school salt and pepper shakers ($20), French Bull serving ware ($15), The Caravan Cookbook ($23.95), and a sweet recipe keeper ($35).
The uptown shop also have a prevalence of garden style knickknacks, perfect for assembling into a green thumb gift basket for Mom. Consider throwing in items like the Gardner's Notebook ($14.95), watermelon soap ($12), varieties of Garden in a Bag ($10), and farmer's market stationary ($18).
Bunky Boutique has a bit of everything for Mom including an assortment of sweet yet funky cloth clutches ($36), Fiat Luxe felt soaps ($16), and recycled leather bracelets from Lesa Wallace ($35) who donates $5 of every purchase to CASA for Children (a non-profit that trains volunteer advocates and mentors for abused and neglected children) -- simply put, it's a good gift for a good cause.
Bunky also carries necklaces from Against the Grain, including the very trendy sideways cross ($45) and the more holiday specific "Mom" ($45). And for the fashionable mothers who feel too young for mom jeans and too old for anything with writing on the butt, take a look at their featured summer dress from Flying Tomato ($72). It, along with everything else, pairs perfectly with their literary chic, Pride and Prejudice tote ($24).
