Phoenix Comedy Festival Brings in Big Names to Benefit the Bill of Rights Monument Project

On Sunday, May 13, comedians including Lewis Black, Bill Engvall, Bobcat Goldthwait, Dick Gregory, Kathleen Madigan, Father Guido Sarducci, Tommy Smothers, Steven Wright (and a bunch of guests) will be making jokes benefiting the charity at Phoenix Symphony Hall at 75 N. 2nd St.. The Bill of Rights Monument Project is a charity promoting artistic reminders for one of the nation's most important founding beliefs. After receiving a $25,000 Matching Challenge Grant (meaning donations made between now and May 13 will be doubled), the project proposed a monument to be placed in the heart of downtown Phoenix.
Once the project raises the funds needed, a limestone monument to the Bill of Rights will be designed by artist and sculptor Joseph Kincannon, of Kincannon Studios, and will be placed along the path leading to the Vietnam Memorial at the Arizona State Capitol Building, at 1700 W. Washington in downtown Phoenix.
Proceeds from the comedy show will help raise that money.
"I am doing this because from what I have seen in the news from time to
time, it seems that some of the folks in Arizona, and the rest of
America, need a bit of a reminder of what our founding fathers really
said," explains Lewis Black, a comedian co-headlining the show.
"The Bill of Rights is the most powerful and successful assertion of individual rights and liberties ever written, one of history's most important and influential documents," says Chris Bliss, the charity's executive director. "It's also the reason my fellow comedians and I get to have so much fun making a great living, so what better way to introduce this monument project to the people of Arizona than with a blockbuster comedy concert?"
A lineup like this is one-of-a-kind, and tickets for the benefit will run attendees $98, $78, and $53. Founders circle admission is also available through MyBillofRights.com and includes a pre-show reception with the artists as well as a signed lithograph of the poster art.
