@RealTimeTitanic: Live-Tweeting 100th Anniversary of the "Unsinkable Ship"

Categories: Morning Buzz

Welcome to the Morning Buzz, a catch-up on interesting happenings around the city and country and a quick guide to what (and who) to keep your eyes on. We'll be here, first thing every weekday, to get you going. Here's what's buzzing this morning:

On April 15, 1912, The Royal Mail Steamer Titanic, the then-largest passenger ship in the world, hit an iceberg and sank off the coast of Newfoundland in the North Atlantic.

One hundred years later, a Belfast-based group will attempt to reenact the ship's building and demise on Twitter.

Starting this week, you can follow the ship's construction in Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, the ribbon cutting, the send off, sailing, docking, and fateful night in "real time" via @RealTimeTitanic.

The concept of "live tweeting" history isn't new -- in November, 24-year-old Oxford University student Alwyn Collinson relived the drama and "reported" the happenings from the battlefield of WWII through @RealTimeWWII.

Like Collinson's efforts, @RealTimeTitanic will send tweets from the perspective of crew members and passengers as the event unfolds.
