Downtown's First Friday (Feb. 3)
First Friday in downtown Phoenix means new art shows in local galleries, openings and events at local shops, and plenty (and we mean plenty) of people. Here's a rundown of February's First Friday along Roosevelt Row and 16th Street.

The biggest bash on the PGA tour came to town this weekend. The appropriately named Waste Management Phoenix Open brought out Scottsdale's golf lovers, party people and plenty of cougars. Check out these crowd pics.

The annual Phoenix Idiotarod is much like the famous Alaskan dogsled race that inspired it, only with colorfully decorated shopping carts bombing around the streets of downtown instead of dogsleds gliding through the snowy wilds. And it involves people dressed up in wacky costumes imbibing alcohol before, during, and after.

Rhymes, Grinds and Good Times brought together a slew of local skaters and musicians on Saturday night. The indoor skateboarding, power chording and cheap pouring went down at Tempe's Mugg Shots Bar.

That waste management event was so much fun. I attended it and you could feel the spirit of unity as people join in a clean up drive.
