Welcome to the Morning Buzz, a catch-up on interesting happenings around the city and country and a quick guide to what (and who) to keep your eyes on. We'll be here, first thing every weekday, to get you going. Here's what's buzzing this morning:
1. Downtown's First Friday (Jan. 6)The very First Friday of the year brought out the masses and the usual mess of misfits and misbehavior. It also included new works by local artists including Colin Chillag, Dan Diaz and Brendan Ore. Older works were showcased as well, as part of the group Holgas retrospective at MonOrchid gallery. Check out the slideshow

2. Snow Globes by Walter Martin and Paloma Muñoz
You don't have to be a sucker to fall in love with a snow globe. Just take a quick look at any of the dozens created by Walter Martin and Paloma Muñoz, in "Travelers". Each 9-by-6-by-6-inch globe was created to "subvert the cheerful tourist conventions of the snow globe with ruminations about travel as a form of mysterious exile."
3. Fred and Friends LetterPressed Type-Style Cookie Cutter/Stamps
are awesome. And at
$20 (along with a batch of actual cookies), they'd make a pretty sweet Valentine's Day gift. Hint, hint.
