The Phoenix edition of the Decentralized Dance Party move through downtown on Wednesday night.
It was part street festival, part rave, and totally fun. The Valley's edition of the Decentralized Dance Party took place on Wednesday night was arguably one of the more unique events to ever happen in Phoenix.

A massive horde of participants gathered outside of the Arizona Science Center, equipped themselves with boomboxes, and transformed into a 500-headed beast that slowly danced its way through downtown.

The event was guided by DDP organizers Gary Lachance and Tom Kuzma, who brought the travelling event to Phoenix as a part of their current "Party Safari" tour. The pair broadcast an amped-up mix of such party anthems as the Beastie Boys' "Fight for Your Right" and Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone" via a low-power portable FM transmitter.

Streets and sidewalks became an impromptu dance floor as participants (who were clad in business suits and other costumes) shook a tail feather, busted some major grooves, and clowned around, all while lit by the flashing emergency lights of the Phoenix Police Department cruisers hired by organizers as escorts.

The crowd invaded the Hooters at the Arizona Center (causing confused looks from waitresses and patrons), danced outside the Phoenix Convention Center and Chase Bank Tower, and eventually wound up at Civic Space Park.

Participants were having a major blast all evening, and even the cops seemed amused by the chaos and crazy dancing, only stepping in when the crowd lingered too long outside ASU's Taylor Place and received complaints (the visit occurred during the condominiums "quiet time.")

That didn't stop a few Sun Devil students from peeping the action from their windows or leaving their dorms and joining in on the fun. It definitely beat studying, at any rate.

And if you weren't fortunate enough to make it out to the event, Lachance and Kuzma told the crowd they'd bring the DDP back to Phoenix sometime soon.

In the meantime, check out our slideshow of the DDP here.
