Thirsty Thursdays at Alice Cooperstown

Categories: Night Owl
Looking for something to do this weekend? "Night Owl" is a quick guide to special nights at bars and clubs around town. We'll give you a few hints re: cover, dress code, music and atmosphere. Every Thursday marks Thirsty Thursdays at Alice Cooperstown.

Thursdays at Alice Cooperstown are supposedly all about the drinks. Unfortunately, Thirsty Thursdays left us a little parched. The sportiest of Downtown Phoenix sports bars was out of its special, had a counter full of empty stools and to top it all off it closed  at the wee hour of 9 p.m.

Check out the latest installment here and our impressions after the jump...

The Place:
 101 E. Jackson Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85004

The Time: All day every Thursday.

The Cover: Nope.

The Parking: Street.

The Bar: Alice Cooperstown caters to the Phoenix sports fan with its decor, name and location between Chase Field and US Airways Center. The  intended vibe is that of an ultimate sports bar.

This particular Thursday featured a small group of folks looking for dinner and not much else. However, this was actually rather fortunate seeing as the bar was completely out of Stella Artois, one of the two Thirsty Thursday specials. The only other special is a $4 Stoli Vodka drink.

The Music: For a bar owned by a musician, the radio rock soundtrack was pretty lackluster.

The employee dress code is a little different at Alice Cooperstown.
The Style: The only discernible style was the Alice Cooper-esque makeup on all of the employees.

The People: An arbitrary arrangement of ages, people and styles.

What we loved: The bartender offering up a free sample of Dunkel, a german beer which we were not too familiar with. It was a nice $4 wheat brew that made us forget all about the absent Stellas. Also, the seemingly permanent aroma of hot wings that permeates the bar.

What we didn't love: One of the strangest aspects of Alice's alehouse is the Monday - Thursday closing time of 9 p.m. We didn't love Thirsty Thursdays, but we would have liked to have at least stayed past primetime.

Are we going back? Maybe, but we certainly wouldn't put this one in our Night Owl hall of fame.
