Looking for something to do this weekend? "Night Owl" is a quick guide to specials nights at bars and clubs around town. We'll give you a few hints re: cover, dress code, music and atmosphere. Every Friday marks Downtime Fridays at Filmbar.

Downtime Fridays at Filmbar.
Downtime Fridays at Filmbar are full of local DJs, beer discounts, and Downtown dwellers. The weekly event claims to be a dance night, and while we didn't too many people moving anywhere but toward the bar, we still found a great atmosphere with some seriously good beats.

The $5 rotating beer specials in combination with DJ Ellery and DJ Riot Earp's song selections provide a more than adequate way to spend your downtime.

Check out the latest edition here and our impressions after the jump...

The low-lit lounge.
The Bar: Filmbar's low-lit lounge/lobby leads you around in a circle as you move from the main bar to the additional beer-only bucket near the back. Similarly, Downtime Friday's beer specials are constantly rotating. The current lineup features a $5 Leffe Brune and Fuller's ESB. The reverse happy hour, which lasts from 10 p.m. - 12 a.m., gets you a dollar off all beers and wines.

The Music: DJ Ellery and DJ Riot Earp teamed up on an eclectic mix of indie dance numbers and more laid back selections.

"The Airplane" by Michael David Little.
The Art: Michael David Little's series of dreamy and mostly Native American-themed mixed media pieces coupled with Joerael Elliott's abstract installations combine to create an overwhelming oomph of oversaturation.

The Style: Casual, as interpreted by high style hipsters.

The People: Ultra-hip youngsters commingling with a somewhat surprising subset of more middle-aged folks.

What we loved: The variety of things to do. Downtime Fridays has discount drinks, supposed potential for dancing and even board games. Also, if you don't like the scene you can always catch a flick.

Backgammon anyone?
What we didn't love: Downtime Fridays is billed as a dance night but it has much more of a relaxing chill out atmosphere.

Are we going back? We've got plenty of downtime, so yes.
