Joseph "Sentrock" Perez on the Downtown Phoenix Public Market

Categories: Visual Art
It's about time Phoenix sees some serious mural love. In the interest of giving credit to their artists and because we're losing track of the times we've said, "Whoa, when did that go up?", we bring you Mural City, a series on the murals springing up around town -- their artists, their hosts and their inspirations.

Artist: Joseph "Sentrock" Perez, who was chosen by popular vote and a panel at the Downtown Phoenix Public Market earlier this month to paint a mural on its west-facing wall.

Location: Downtown Phoenix Public Market

Sentrock's a household name in the street art community -- he heads up The Rise Project, which provides urban educational programming to local youth and opened a temporary pop-up storefront on Roosevelt over the summer.

He applied for the mural gig in October, and was chosen by a panel of Downtown community members. It took Sentrock a few days to sketch, plan, and paint the mural, which market employees say will be up "for a while."

Check it out the paint job for yourself at 14 East Pierce Street in Phoenix, read more about Perez, who won a New Times Big Brain award in 2011 right here, and stay tuned for news about another project he has in the works ...

Wow, that mural is really beautiful. I would love to buy a print of it, any plans for doing that?
