Anyone who tells you Unicorns don't exist is probably allergic to fun and creativity. And that's a shame, because on Friday, August 12, Co+Hoots is hosting the Unicorn Art Mix, a night that will undoubtedly be full of both.

The event celebrates the release of local author Jessica Marquis' new book, Raising Unicorns: Your Step-by-Step Guide to Starting and Running a Successful--and Magical!--Unicorn Farm, and benefits SailBear Labs.

SailBear is an Arizona non-profit organization that promotes creativity through youth writing workshops, filmmaking, and acting that Marquis and husband, Bob, started last year.

"The purpose of [SailBear Labs] is to encourage kids in exploring their imagination, specifically in the creative, and entertainment arts," she told us last month.

The idea for the SailBear struck after visiting Dave Eggers' 826 Valencia, a similar non-profit that helps kids improve their writing abilities. Ideally, the Marquis' organization will one day have a physical space also.

Like she's doing with proceeds from Raising Unicorns, money raised at Friday's Unicorn Art Mix will also go towards SailBear. Local creative Nina Miller's plush unicorns, prints from illustrator Kevin Hedgpeth, and even a talking robot will be on display, and a special unicorn-inspired compilation music CD will also be available.

The Unicorn Art Mix takes place Saturday, August 12, at Co+Hoots. The event starts at 7pm.
