Swoon has a permanent vision for the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans.

The Broklyn-based, internationally known street artist is currently working with The Airlift, a New Orleans organization that sends local artists abroad and hosts artists from around the world to create opportunities and cultural exchange.

Her vision: the Dithyrambalina.

While you (or Swoon for that matter) might not be able to pronounce the name, if you're in New Orleans this spring, you'll be able to hear it; the permanent art installation will be made from the salvaged pieces of a Creole cottage .

The result will look like a house, but will function as a community space and musical instrument that local and national sound artists can help build, perform in, and ultimately host neighborhood events.

Even before the destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans had been afflicted by huge numbers of run down properties and abandoned loss ... This project is an imaginative attempt to redress the futility of this blight by finding within it vast resources of salvageable materials. By turning our salvaged construction into a music box that is free, public, and playful we are inviting the wider community to imagine and participate in a new landscape of potential and possibility.
