A year later, the Boston-based architect and her team created "the world's largest portable relaxation/napping/hangout device," aka The Big Hammock, at Fort Point Channel Parks in Boston.
[Hammocks] are simple in gesture, form and execution. Situating a hammock within a public park can elevate the social implication of that object. The hammock is intended to serve the community as a simple lounge space as well as a sculptural expression. It is intended to create a new way to interact with and admire the urban and historical setting, complimenting the Greenway as space of public leisure.. After the hammock was taken down in 2010, it was shipped to an undisclosed location.
Project organizers write on the Big Hammock website that they hope to bring the installation to cities throughout the U.S., and encourage potential hosts to send them a note.
