Bad Teacher: All About Laughs and a Boob Job

Besides doing fun relationship stuff like arguing about how to discipline our dog, New Times blogger Tyler Hughes and his girlfriend, Jackie Cronin, go to the movies.

Tyler: New tits. This whole movie is about Cameron Diaz's character, Elizabeth Halsey, trying to make enough money to buy herself new tits and hopefully woo her a sugar daddy.

Jackie: She kind of needed one. Teachers don't make that much money and she was all about the finer things in life.

Tyler:
Until her engagement to some rich guy gets broken off and she has to teach again. It was fun to watch her buck the stereotypical teacher persona and just be a regular person. It reminded me of the early scenes in School of Rock, but with a lot more swearing.

Jackie: Diaz is one seriously bad teacher. She spends the whole first semester showing her class movies about other more inspirational teachers, coming in to work hungover, drinking at work, smoking weed and generally being a jerk to everyone around her. It's a wonder that no one stopped in to see how she was doing. That is until she pisses off Amy Squirrel, played by Lucy Punch.

Tyler: Punch played the typical "super teacher" who is just in it for the kids. She's obsessed with exposing Halsey for the bad teacher she is but never quite reaches her goal. Punch was over the top perky and kind of corny but she was enjoyable. Diaz was entertaining too but her character turned out to be kind of one dimensional.

Jackie: Yeah, she never changes much past the selfish slacker, in fact she really has no redeeming qualities at all, but she gets a lot of laughs. It's in the trailers, but the dodge ball scene is hilarious. I probably would have learned math faster if I had dodge balls chucked at me every time I got a wrong answer.

Tyler: Jason Segel brings a sarcastic humor to the movie. He's funny, if a little out of place. He also doesn't have that much screen time, but he make the most of it.

Jackie:  Segel was funny but Justin Timberlake was ridiculous. Timberlake plays the new substitute teacher, the eager and enthusiastic Scott. He is definitely a character and his scenes are so awkward it's hard to watch. Including one of the most uncomfortable sex scenes ever.

Tyler: Oh yeah, I almost had to stop watching at one point. It's not hard to tell that the script was penned by a couple of guys who also wrote for The Office. They are masters at writing seriously awkward scenes.

Jackie: I feel that Cameron Diaz's character didn't really learn anything throughout the movie, but it didn't really matter that much as this movie was all about the laughs. Laughs and new tits.
