Six Must-Sees For Third Friday (Feb. 18)

If it were up to us, every day would be Third Friday with tons of new work from local artists who are just debuting and have been around for a while.

Here are six shows you won't want to miss:

1. What Goes On and What Takes Place @ Modified Arts

The powerhouse team behind What Goes on and What Takes Place is finally showing off their work to the public. Sue Chenoweth, Mary Shindell, Monica Martinez and Carolyn Lavender have been blogging about their shared (and sometimes collaborative) process for months, and giving us small hints as to what's going to be up on the walls.

The women say the show will include one large piece by each artist, as well as smaller, supporting works and lots of evidence of their shared and individual processes. The opening is from 6 to 9 p.m.. Check out the Modified Arts website or the invite for more information.

2. Former Residents @ Regular Gallery

Regular Gallery's debuting its second show this Friday. The gallery, opened by Greg Esser in January, is inviting its former creative residents (pre-gallery, the space was a house) including Brian Boner, Michael Lundgren, Brent Hirak, Spencer Hibert and Robert Zunigha. 3. Things Take Time @ Jones

After a couple weeks off, Jones is kicking off another third Friday with paintings and furniture from found objects by Randal Wilson. The Phoenix-based artist will be in attendance from 7 to 10 p.m. Read more about what Jones promises to be some serious "Randalmania" on the event page.

4. Here We Are Now @ Trunk Space
Christian Michael Filardo's hosting his debut solo exhibition, Here We Are Now, that'll be full of video, sculpture, collage and performance. The intermedia student at ASU will be around from 6 to 8 p.m.. For more info (and behind the scenes photos), check out the invite.

5. On Common Ground @ Heard Museum
The Heard Museum continues its free Third Friday series, NU (Native + You) with live music by Tierra del Fuego and art by Steven Yazzie, Jaune Quick-To-See-Smith and Doug Hyde. Check out the show in the Berlin Gallery, and grab a few snacks and drinks at the museum's new Coffee Cantina. Yazzie will be in the gallery for questions and discussion from 6 to 8 p.m.. 6. It's Not Just Black and White @ ASU Art Museum
Gregory Sale's bringing the criminal justice system into the museum. His project, including fact-based tours, discussion, and interactive components, is part of his residence in the Museum's Social Studies series. Throughout his residency, Sale and his process, as well as his work and resulting show will be on public display. The Tempe museum is hosting an opening for Sale's show and their Spring season from 7 to 9 p.m.. Read more about his project here and the opening here.
