A look inside Antique Sugar
Hollywood Regency, the vintage shop that was slated to close at year's end, has found new owners and will continue operations for the foreseeable future.

As was previously reported, Michael Todd Robertson, who co-owned the business with longtime proprietor Heidi Owens, planned to shut down Hollywood Regency once the store's merchandise was sold. (Robertson had decided to cease operations following Owens' death on June 6.)

But now, Robertson found Annamarie Sanchez and Sarah Bingham to run what is now called Antique Sugar.

Sanchez tells New Times that she and Bingham became owners of the space on October 16 and grand opened November 26.

"Sarah and I have been collecting vintage clothing since we were really young, but we always wondered what the hell we were going to do with it," says Sanchez. "We were renting a booth at the [Historic District Antique Mall], but then it closed [on September 30]. Two weeks later, we owned the store."

Sanchez states that aside from launching a new website, holding twenty-to-forty-percent-off sales on the weekends, and playing/selling local music (she and Bingham are members of the longtime Mesa-based chick-rock trio Juicy Newt), there won't be any major changes to the vintage shop.

"We're not taking over," says Sanchez. "It's still Heidi's place."

Antique Sugar is located at Zinnias at Melrose Mall, 724 West Indian School Road. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Call 602-277-5765 or see the store's Facebook page.

Annamarie and Sarah are doing a wonderful job! I am very glad that the shop is staying open and is staying in such loving hands. But for the record-Heidi Owens owned it all by herself-Michael Robertson WAS NOT a co-owner, other than the first few months in 2007 it was open at the old location. He took over after she died. It was ENTIRELY Heidi's baby until then.

I look forward to seeing where the new owners take it! I wish them the best of luck!
