The Bee's Knees is less than a month old, but it's already beginning to bloom.

The shop's owned and operated by Julia and Steven Helffrich, and includes handpicked clothing, shoes, accessories, house wares and artwork. The building, on 16th and Cypress streets in Phoenix, hosts several small rooms that are currently art galleries and offices, as well as a courtyard full of paintings and sculptures.

We recently visited the shop to see what all the buzz was about. Check out what we'd take, what we'd leave and why we'd go back after the jump...

Things we're taking home:

4. Restaurant ware
Dine out while you dine in? The bill for this set of restaurant ware is $40. Individual pieces are $1 or $2.

We'll pass on...
"Montana" beaded belts. We love Montana, but not enough to wear a five-dollar "Montana" belt.

One reason to go back...

The Bee's Knees is more than secondhand clothing store. The spot also functions as a gallery for local artists.

Julia and Steven have plans to host community events at the shop and expand their merchandise. That means more furniture, clothing and artwork. Oh, and they have $15 jeans. How can you resist?

The Bee's Knees is located on the corner of 16th and Cypress Streets at 2222 N. 16th Street. Visit the store Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 602-254-1641.

I have never been so successful in a pre-owned clothing shop but The Bee's Knee's is by far the best experience ever. The owners have a great knack for picking out the absolute best and putting it in their shop. The few times I shopped there so far I have bought nearly everything I have tried on. It is like the Julia did a personal buying trip in L.A. with you in mind. Now my closet is getting stocked and I am getting so many complements on the clothes I'm wearing! The prices are really good too. Besides great clothing and many other have to have accessories, the Gallery Space is open first Fridays and you can meet, mingle, enjoy a glass of wine, listen to poetry, music and of course buy art! If you live in the hood you will definitely want to come in and experience the sense of community that surrounds this place! I for one am so glad I was introduced to The Bee's Knees. Even Julia's sons have an eye for what looks good and they WILL tell you :-)
