Jon Haddock
is an incredibly talented fine artist, illustrator and a heckuva guy, according to all who know him. He has this to say about himself:

"If I had been better at math I would have liked to have been a mad scientist. Being an artist is kind of similar. My practice is still fueled by outrage against the status quo, but this way I'm responsible for fewer deaths and less destruction."

Learn about inspirations from Crumb to Heston and Haddock's quest to be the Number One Creative (really, we swear, the order is random!) after the jump ...

What's on your Inspiration Wall (real or imagined)?
Words:
- Free people need open borders. Walls that are built to keep others out will be used to keep you in.
- "Media: Never ever consume it. Always create it. It's important to push out. Not take in. It's a matter of survival. There are two kinds of people in this world: artists and marks" - Terence McKenna (as quoted by Robert Crumb)
- Always say Yes.

Images:
- Charlton Heston in the Omega Man.
- Wally Wood's 22 Panels that always work

What's your last big project?
A four-page comic for Kim Larkin's summer show [at Modified Arts]. Not really very big, but it took me two months.

What's your next big project?
A show at SMoCA in May: Idios Kosmos. Also comic book themed.

Why Phoenix?
I kind of got stuck here. I really hated it as a kid, but it's gradually gotten better over the years. Some days it seems kind of okay.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to live in a place where there were fewer racists, and people were generally less fearful and more compassionate. But I think living here gives one an understanding of America that would otherwise be much more abstract.

What's something you want Phoenix to know about you?
I'm really a nice guy.

And what's something you don't want Phoenix to know about you?
I delayed this interview in a sick bid to be number one.

i don't think i can use the f-bomb here, which is unfortunate because i use the phrase "mother f_____" as a high compliment, and so please insert that phrase into the following sentence: haddock is a right-on __________er and i ___________ing love it. i mean, __________!

p.s. it would be really ____________ing nice to live in a state with fewer racists.
