Mental Health Collective Inaugural Meeting
From 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Moncada and Sanchez will lead the first ever meet-up of the Mental Health Collective. The two Phoenicians founded the group, inspired by the Icarus Project, as a way to initiate a dialogue on how people manage stress.
Says Moncada, "I brought the idea to Claire because of my own concern regarding psychiatrists who sometimes prescribe pills before trying natural alternatives, such as changes in nutrition, exercise, and herbal remedies."
Moncada stresses that the alt-remedy-centric, community-based shindig is a meet-up rather than a support group since there won't be any licensed health professionals in the house. She also says that no medical advice will be given at the discussion that's scheduled to take place at Conspire, the downtown coffeeshop/artist co-op that habitually brings out-of-the-box ideas to the table.
