61. Robbie Pfeffer

Robbie Pfeffer is a 20-year-old ASU student who runs the art magazine The Tempe Starving Artist and has a daily comic strip posted in the State Press. He also hosts art related events at galleries including live painting, concerts, spoken words, open mics and somehow manages to find enough time for sleep before class.

Typical college student life, right?

Five things on your inspiration wall:

- Signed Perry Bible Fellowship poster

- Old punk show fliers

- Ticket stub signed by the GZA

- Luster Kaboom self-published zines

- A ceramic smoking baby and plastic Pillsbury Doughboy

What was your last big project?
I haven't had a big project in a month or two, so basically I've kept myself busy with a series of small projects.
I've been running a couple open mics with the help of more than a few talented people. Getting the Tempe Starving Artist Magazine to finally pay for itself with some new advertisements, including the ASU art school.
I also got to paint live at the Aceyalone and Sunspot Jonz show recently. It was really a great opportunity because I'm not 21 so I couldn't get into the show. Also, Sunspot Jonz started the Living Legends, so that's a pretty incredible milestone to reach considering I was sitting on my ass doing nothing just a year ago, and now I get to paint surrounded by artists I respect.

What's your next big project?

On August 21st we will be throwing a block party/concert in Phoenix in front of Blueberry Deluxe, off of Seventh and Montecito avenues, to help raise awareness of the community garden they want to create in the dirt lot next to the shop. We will have bands going from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. along with live painting, food, and water guns/balloons because Phoenix in August is hot as hell.

How much do you hate being asked about your next project?

It beats a lot of other questions I get asked. Like, where is the rent money?

What do you want Phoenix to know about you?
I'm trying to create an artistic community that is less about competition and more about growing and supporting each other.
